Eligibility

Are you intellectually curious, analytical and creative? Do you want to play a role in supporting evidence-based policy formulation that will affect the lives of Singaporeans? Are you adept at quantitative analysis, and able to communicate your thinking clearly to economists and non-economists alike? If your answer is 'yes' to the above questions, we encourage you to apply for the Singapore Government Scholarship – Economist Service (SGS-ES)!

Launched in 2011, the SGS-ES was established to attract students who are passionate about Economics to build a career as public sector economist. As an economist, you will help to advance economic thought in Singapore's public policies to shape our nation's future. You may apply for the ES Undergraduate Scholarship if you are planning to pursue undergraduate studies in Economics at a local or overseas university. If you are currently an undergraduate pursuing Economics, you may apply for the ES Mid-Term Scholarship instead.

To be eligible, you should meet the following criteria:

  • Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident intending to take up Singapore citizenship.

  • Excellent academic results achieved for GCE 'A' Level, International Baccalaureate, or NUS High School Diploma

  • For mid-term applications. Outstanding undergraduate results and are currently in Year 1 to penultimate year of study

  • Indicated "Economist Service" as your top career choice

  • Strong co-curricular activities (CCA) record and demonstrated leadership qualities

  • Keen interest in applying Economics to the analysis of public policies
